VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT BEGINS FOR RUNNING HORSE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP; TOURNAMENT’S WEB SITE LAUNCHED

New PGA TOUR Fall Series event will be held Oct. 22-28 at Fresno’s Running Horse Golf & Country Club; Tournament information and volunteer registration are now available online at www.runninghorsechampionship.com

FRESNO, Calif., Dec. 20, 2006 – The Running Horse Golf Championship, which in October will bring the PGA TOUR back to the San Joaquin Valley for the first time in 42 years, announced today that it has started volunteer registration via its newly launched Web site.

Those interested in volunteering can register at www.runninghorsechampionship.com. Volunteers will be needed throughout tournament week, Oct. 22-28, 2007.

“Like with any professional golf tournament, volunteers are the lifeblood of our operations,” Tournament Director Bob Jeffrey said. “The Running Horse Golf Championship depends on the valued support of our large volunteer corps to make the tournament run smoothly.”

The $4.5 million Running Horse Golf Championship will be one of seven events in the brand new PGA TOUR Fall Series, a season-ending run of tournaments throughout the fall schedule. The tournament will showcase a 132-player field on Running Horse Golf & Country Club, a 7,100-yard, par-70 Nicklaus/Nicklaus II design. The PGA TOUR and Running Horse Golf & Country Club have agreed on a six-year deal for the Fall Series event in Fresno. It’s the first PGA TOUR event in the city since 1964.

Volunteers are needed for the Running Horse Golf Championship for a variety of duties, and will be required to work a total of 24 hours (usually four six-hour shifts) during tournament week. The benefits of volunteering include:

·         A volunteer badge good for use the entire tournament week, even when not volunteering, including access to the San Joaquin Valley Club, a VIP Club tent on tournament grounds

·         Additional grounds guest passes for family and friends

·         A tournament shirt, hat and additional clothing item (volunteers will be charged $50 to cover the costs of this uniform)

·         Complimentary breakfast and lunch on the days they volunteer

·         An invitation to a post-tournament Volunteer Appreciation Party

Volunteers can work on the following committees: Caddies; Construction and Operations Support; Corporate Hospitality Services; Ecology; Information, Program Sales and Pairing-sheet Distribution; Media Relations and Registration; Player Evacuation; Practice Range; Pro-Ams; Scoreboards; Special Needs Shuttle; Standard Bearers; Transportation; Uniform and Credential Distribution and Volunteer Services; Walking Scorers; and Will Call.

Volunteers can choose their top three choices of committees, and every effort will be made to accommodate their requests. They will be informed of their committee assignments in early February. Volunteers will be required to attend a preliminary training and uniform pickup session in late August or early September and an on-site training session the week before the tournament.

The tournament’s Web site also features separate links to registration for volunteer positions specifically reserved for U.S. Veterans and club members. For more information on volunteer registration, please contact Lisa Hawkins at (559) 233-4653.

Aside from volunteer registration, the Running Horse Golf Championship’s new Web site offers plenty of other features. The site provides event information, sponsorship and charity information, a press room and a link to information on tickets, which will become available in January.

The Greater San Joaquin Valley Charity Foundation will host the Running Horse Golf Championship, which will benefit U.S. Veterans and local charities, and the tournament also will generate an estimated local economic impact of $50-75 million annually.

The Fall Series will offer PGA TOUR players a crack at another $32 million to help secure their PGA TOUR status for the next year as well as improve their position in the Official World Golf Ranking. It also will give them the opportunity to earn eligibility for World Golf Championship events and selected invitationals and majors. The Running Horse Golf Championship will be the sixth of seven events in the Fall Series, giving players just outside the top-125 bubble a last gasp at playing for the FedEx Cup the following year.

The Golf Channel will provide live, four-day television coverage of the tournament.

For sponsorship and hospitality information, please call Amanda Holder, Director of Sales & Marketing, at (559) 233-4653.
